What do you think an Acknowledgement of Country is?
Do you know why we do it?
North Beach Primary School would like to acknowledge the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation and pay our respects to their Elders past, present & emerging.
What is an Acknowledgment of Country
An Acknowledgment of the Country is a way of showing respect for the Traditional Owners and can be given by both non-Indigenous people and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are connected to another place.
Example One
ABC KIDS listen acknowledges Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the Traditional Custodians of lands, waterways and skies across Australia.
We thank you for sharing and caring for the land we learn and play on.
We pay our respects to Elders, and we share our friendship and kindness.
Example Two
Room 10 would like to acknowledge the original custodians of Star Swamp, the bushland, the animals, the ground beneath our feet and the salty ocean between our toes.
We thank the Whadjuk Noongar People for keeping the land healthy and safe for us to learn, live and play.
Example Three
Here is the Land
Here is the Sky
Here are my friends
and here am I
We play today
On traditional Land
Our First Nation people
we walk hand in hand
We’d like to say thank you
for letting us share
the Land that you love
we promise to take care.
Example Four
Room 11 would like to thank the Whadjuk Noongar people for sharing the beautiful sunburnt country with us. We appreciate you protecting the animals, the waterways and all the trees.
We are grateful for the insects, flowers and the nourishing air we breathe. Thankyou for providing us a safe place to learn, live and play.
It is important to think about the land in which our classroom stands.
Let's brainstorm some words to describe the Country we are on (e.g. ‘pay respects to Elders who have cared for the mountains, rivers, sea and sky where our school is located on ______ Country.’)
What can be found around North Beach Primary?

What are the local Aboriginal Peoples called?
What else do we want to include? Do we want to use Noongar language for key terms?
An Acknowledgement of Country should include:
🎯 reference to the Traditional Owners/Custodians of the area; and
🎯 a statement of respect for Elders past and present and you may also wish to encourage a statement of respect for Elders of the future.
